Are you missing one or more teeth? Then you know how inconvenient it can be. Chewing becomes difficult, speaking feels awkward, and you may even avoid smiling fully. Fortunately, there is a solution that truly works: a dental implant.
Unlike dentures that can slip or cause discomfort, an implant feels like your own tooth. It’s firmly fixed, you can eat normally, and nobody will notice the difference. In short: you get your carefree smile back.
At Dental Care Utrecht, we have five practices across the city, so there’s always an experienced implantologist nearby to help you!

A dental implant is essentially an artificial tooth root placed securely in your jawbone. We can attach a crown, bridge, or even a complete denture to it.
This treatment is ideal if:
You have lost a tooth due to decay
You lost a tooth in an accident
A tooth is so damaged it cannot be saved
The answer is simple: implants feel the most natural. While dentures can slip or irritate, an implant stays firmly in place. You can eat without worry, even biting into a crisp apple or crunchy carrot is no problem.
Implants also protect your other teeth. With a bridge, healthy teeth next to the gap need to be ground down. With an implant, we leave those teeth untouched.
And then there’s the confidence factor: many patients regain their self-esteem completely. No more worrying about loose dentures during an important presentation or a fun dinner.
A dental implant can last for decades, making it a true long-term investment.
Step 1: Comprehensive Consultation
We thoroughly examine your situation. How healthy is your jawbone? Are there any special considerations? Based on this, we create a personalised treatment plan.
Step 2: Placing the Implant
This sounds more daunting than it is. Under local anaesthesia, we place a small titanium screw that will act as your new tooth root. Most patients find the procedure easier than expected.
After placement, your jaw needs time to heal. The implant fuses with the bone (a process called osseointegration) making it as stable as a natural root.
Step 3: The Final Crown or Prosthesis
After about 3–4 months (healing time varies), we attach the custom-made crown, bridge, or denture. This will be designed to perfectly match your natural teeth.
Our implantologists guide you through the entire process. You’re never on your own and can always contact us with questions.
It depends on your personal situation:
Number of implants: Replacing one tooth costs less than a full set
Complexity: Additional procedures like bone grafting can affect the price

On average, 3–4 months, but it varies from person to person. We provide a temporary solution so you can function normally during healing.
This depends on your policy and situation. Some supplementary dental insurance plans cover part of the cost. We can help you check your options.
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Afterwards, you may have some discomfort, which can be managed with regular painkillers. Most patients are surprised by how painless it is.
For one implant, usually 30–60 minutes. Multiple implants take longer. We always take the time needed for precision work.
From around age 18, once the jawbone has fully developed. Your jawbone must also be healthy and strong, which we check during the consultation.
For the first few days, stick to soft foods like yoghurt, soup, and smoothies. Avoid hot drinks for 24 hours, as the anaesthesia can make you less sensitive to temperature. After that, you can eat anything you like.
